Let the kitchen cool and clear the worktop
Switch off the hob and wait until it is fully cool before cleaning. Move food, utensils and small appliances away from the area. Crumbs and loose dust should be removed before using a damp cloth, so grit does not scratch the surface.
Loosen grease before you scrub
Use a product intended for the surface and follow its label, including any wait time. Start with a small test in a hidden spot, especially on painted cabinets, stone counters or coated appliances. Use a soft cloth or non-scratch sponge; abrasive pads can dull polished finishes. Clean from the top down: cabinet fronts and backsplash first, then hob and counter, and sink last.
Pay attention to the overlooked spots
Grease often collects around the hob controls, backsplash edges, cabinet handles and the gap beside appliances. Wipe these areas gently and dry them after rinsing. For the sink, clear food debris and clean the basin, tap and drain cover with a suitable product. Do not flood seams, electrical controls or unsealed joints.
Keep products safe
Use one cleaner at a time, keep the room ventilated and store bottles away from children and pets. Never mix bleach with ammonia, acids or other household cleaners. Read the product label rather than combining products to make them “stronger.”
